Bluebeard's Forth Wife (2009)
20 x 45cm Mixed media
Once there was a girl so sweet she seemed made of candy. She was caring and friendly, smiled sweetly at strangers and was a dutiful daughter. She looked happy but an evil spell prevented any food or drink to enter her mouth. Anything edible that passed her lips turned into a rancid brew she could not eat. The second she spat out the vile concoction it would transform into fat marshmallows, sherbet sugar and all the other luscious contents of the most heavenly sweet shop in the world.
Ravenous she kept trying to eat her meals, even managing to swallow the putrefying bile once, but there was no way she could digest it. Forced to vomit the pungent filth she watched in torment as it transformed into delicious pieces of Turkish delight the moment it left her lips. All in the land named her the sweetest, most lovely girl alive and rejoiced at the mouth-watering treats she so frequently produced. Eternally starving and desperately thirsty she never perished.
