My Other Half and My Better Half are two matching series of work which use pornographic magazines as a medium. Dealing with issues surrounding intimacy and insecurity they attempt to scrutinise internal inconsistencies and desperate base desires.
My Other Half features images of couples that have been coloured in with black permanent pen, leaving behind only the hands and face of the man, in a sea of darkness. Exploring the sexual and emotional relationships between men and women the artist has censored this pornography in an attempt not to prudishly hide explicit imagery but to covertly expose underlying mental conflicts.
In the female accompaniment, My Better Half, previously explicit images of women engaged in fellatio have been doctored with toilet paper that erupts from their mouths, concealing the male member and simultaneously leaving the women gagged and silent.
